High Falls Fair Day July 12 2008
Our Last fundraising effort for the trip.....
We sold hot dogs, chilli, baked beans, brownies and lots of cold beverages and salads.
Kelsey and Kristin are selling hand made solar bracelets. They change colors when exposed to UVA and UVB rays to indicate that sunscreen is needed and offering the chance to make your own beaded bracelet. We learned about the effects of the suns energy while earning a badge.
These children are having a blast in our troops own design of a misting house. We call it our P.P.P.P. (personal persperation people parlor) engineered by troop member Tierney and constructed by all. We charge $0.25 to take a walk through it, but this gangs responsible adult gave us $10.00 to hang out for quite a while!
Kristin and the gang get lamb basted by one of the volunteers from the High Falls Fire House after they threw a measley cup of cold water at the firemen. You don't mess with Firemen and their hoses!

Children's Day Parade July 11 2008
As part of the 40th Annual Childrens Day Parade hosted by the City of Kingston, this years theme was "Parades of the Past", so of course we chose the theme of DISNEY!. Our Girl Scout Troop was joined by Troops 187 (cadettes) and Troop 165 (Brownies) from Rondout Valley Community to help us celebrate 26 more days until we leave for our trip!

Our Troop Mascot "Lily" marched with us as "Lilo" accompanied by The Leader, Kim as "Goofy" and a member of Troop 187 as "Ariel"
Kelsey as "Belle" and Sabrina as "Hanna Montana" marched as they handed out lolli-pops with the Troop 48 website listed on them.
Stephanie as "Mary Poppins" walked about reminding the children to "eats their veggies and to be sure mind the folks!" while Chelsey as "Jack Skellington" shook the hands of on lookers.

Dying of the shirts for our trip
OH MY!!! We're going to do what to the shirts?
Sabrina and Christina sorted the 84 shirts into groups so that each participant would get 1 shirt of each of the six colors in their size for the trip.
Stephanie and Christina prepare the shirt to be placed into the next color vat. We had six colors: fuschia, royal blue, sunlight yellow, orange, radiant purple and celery green.
We decided that it was cheaper to purchase all white shirts and dye them ourselves, then it was to purchase them already colored. We were also working on a badge about textiles while completing this task.
Mom and daughter team, Kelsey and Deb are hard at work. You had to keep stiring the shirt to be assured of color consistancy.

COOKIES AND MORE COOKIES ARE HERE!!
Our wonderful cookie moms, Terry and Peg picked up the troops 125 cases at the trailer drop. They delivered them to the High Falls Fire House, where our troop meets regularly.
Skate Time 209 was kind enough to lend us use of the parking lot for the Rondout Valley Service Units cookies.
The girls learned first hand how the sorting at a troop level takes place.
Each girl order had to be sorted, counted, and double checked.
Then the orders were recheck by each member of the troop for accuracy before the girls could take their orders home to sort on the girl order level.
This entire process took about 2 hours!
